Our History
TROY NATURE SOCIETY was founded in the spring of 2010 as a 501(c)(3) organization to support the Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center and the green spaces within the City of Troy (MI). John Ragan introduced the concept of a ‘Troy Nature Study Society’ at the annual Maple Syrup Volunteer Dinner on April 17, 2010, and announced an initial organizational meeting which was held May 06, 2010 at the Troy Library. Some highlights of our history:

- Organizational Meeting
- Mission Statement and Articles of Incorporation presented & approved
- Initial Board of Directors elected
- Fiduciary Agreement with Troy Historical Society proposed
• JUNE 2010
- State of Michigan Articles of Incorporation approved
- TNS bank account opened
- Board of Directors began work on By-Laws
• JULY 2010
- Discussions on SNC operating agreement initiated with City of Troy
- By-Laws approved by Board of Directors
- Membership Committee established
• AUGUST 2010
- Charter Membership campaign began
- TNS insurance purchased
- General Membership meeting
- By-Laws approved by membership
- New Board of Directors elected
- Federal 501(c)(3) application submitted
• SEPTEMBER 2010
- Federal 501(c)(3) application approved
- Fund-Raising /Grants Committee formed
• OCTOBER 2010
- Charter Membership campaign ended - 62 members
- Web site / Newsletter Committee formed
- Web site launched
- Organization/Personnel Committee formed
- Neighborhood Coupon drive launched
- State of Michigan License to Solicit received
- Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center history compiled
• JULY 1, 2011
Troy Nature Society assumes oversight of the Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center and begans management of the center's educational programs and activities.
