We are actively recruiting for the position of:
Development Specialist
Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Development Specialist (DS) will work in conjunction with the ED to spearhead development efforts as the Troy Nature Society continues to grow. A new position in the organization, the DS will have the opportunity to build the development position which encompasses skills in fundraising, prospect research, grant writing, event coordination and database management. This position is part-time (16- 25 hours/week) non-exempt position that reports directly to the Executive Director.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in management, philanthropy, communication/marketing or related field or equivalent work experience.
Two years in a professional fundraising capacity and successfully demonstrated program/event management experience.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing a successful fund development program. Experience supporting the fundraising efforts of a nonprofit Board of Directors.
Understanding of motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, donor stewardship, and standard fundraising techniques including face to face solicitation, proposal writing, special events and direct mail.
Knowledge and management experience of general development office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor histories, donor database management, fundraising reporting and donor recognition.
Demonstrated experience and confidence in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding cash and in-kind donors
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead, coordinate, and direct special events for the organization.
Assist with development and execution of the organization’s annual fundraising plan
Management of TrailBlazer database; data entry; gift processing; mass mailings; reports
Research and propose new, innovative fundraising opportunities to enhance and expand annual fund and fundraising events.
Expand donor stewardship opportunities to thank and engage donors at all levels.
Identify, cultivate, and solicit event sponsorships and in-kind gifts.
Support grants program including identification, research, writing, and managing the grant process.
Support the expansion of annual giving.
Identify, cultivate, and engage community partners to increase annual fund revenue.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to interact with people of all ages with enthusiasm and cheerfulness
Excellent speaking and communication skills
Excellent time management and organization skills
Excellent presentation, customer service and public relations skills
Valid driver’s license
Ability to work occasional weekdays, nights and weekends
